After studying Arabicand Persian, he developed an interest inTurkish language and literature, especiallypoetry, and in 1882 he published OttomanPoems Translated into English Verse in theOriginal Forms.Gibb acquired a knowledge of Arabic andPersian languages, and became especiallyinterested in Turkish language and literature.He got married and moved to London in 1899.He made a few visits to Europe, but nevervisited the regions that he studied. He did,however, come to be viewed as a sympatheticand talented orientalist, with an excellentlibrary.
