Willy Rizzo (1928-2013)

Willy Rizzo kam in den 1930er Jahren von Neapel nach Paris. Mit 12 Jahren hatte er bereits begonnen zu fotografieren. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde er von „Point de Vue“ beauftragt, die Folgen des Afrikafeldzugs in Tunesien zu dokumentieren. Seine hier entstandenen Fotografien wurden vom Life Magazin veröffentlicht. In Frankreich arbeitete er als Fotojournalist und schuf zahlreiche Porträts berühmter Persönlichkeiten. Er bereiste die Vereinigten Staaten und hielt dort ebenfalls die Berühmtheiten der Zeit fest. 1948 begann seine 20-jährige Tätigkeit für Paris Match. Er heiratete die Schauspielerin Elsa Martinelli, wodurch er weitere Einblicke in die Welt der Stars gewann. Rizzo war auch als Möbel-Designer tätig. Einige seiner Designs befinden sich heute in bedeutenden Sammlungen, etwa im Metropolitan Museum in New York. (bde)

Willy Rizzo (1928-2013)

Willy Rizzo moved from Naples to Paris in the 1930s. As early as twelve-year-old, he began to shoot his first photographs. After World War II, he was commissioned by Point de Vue to document the consequences of the North African Campaign in Tunisia. The photographs he shot there were published by the Life magazine. In France, he worked as a photojournalist and photographed celebrities. He toured the United States, where he focused on celebrity photographs as well. His 20 years of work for Paris Match started in 1948. He married the actress Elsa Martinelli and gained further insights into the world of celebrities. Rizzo also worked as a furniture designer. Some of his designs are today in major collections, including the Metropolitan Museum in New York. (bde)
