AVMazzega

Die Azienda Vetraia Mazzega wurde 1946 von Angelo Vittorio in Mazzega in Murano gegründet. 1950 trat Gianni Bruno Mazzega in den Familienbetrieb ein und begann mit Lampen zu arbeiten. 1960 begann die Herstellung von Lampen unter der Marke AVMazzega. Bis 1970 avancierte das Unternehmen zum größten Lampenhersteller in Italien. 1980 folgten Kooperationen mit international bekannten Designern, wie De Lucchi und Piva. In den 1990er Jahren begann Mazzega mit der Produktion von Möbeln für Luxushotels und Verkaufsläden von Haushaltswarenmarken. 2000 übernahm Andrea Mazzega die Leitung des Unternehmens.

Muranoglas

Murano, eine kleine Inselgruppe vor Venedig, ist weltweit für seine Glaskunst bekannt. Aus Brandschutzgründen wurden im Jahre 1295 alle Glasöfen von Venedig auf diese Insel verlagert. Die Glasmacher experimentierten hier mit römischen Glastechniken und hatten gegen Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von vielfarbigem, blumenartig gemustertem Kunstglas entwickelt, das sogenannte Millefioriglas. Noch bedeutender jedoch war die Entwicklung von Kristallglas (cristallo glas). Dieser Begriff taucht erstmals im Jahre 1409 auf. Den Glasmachern gelang es mit dieser Art von hauchdünnem, federleichtem und absolut makellosem und farblosem Kristallglas wundervoll elegante und anspruchsvolle Formen zu schaffen. So wurden die Glasobjekte in der Renaissance zur Haupteinnahmequelle der Bevölkerung der Lagunenstadt. Nur noch wenige Stücke aus dieser Zeit sind erhalten, die Vielzahl der Formen und Dekore erschließt sich jedoch beispielsweise aus de den Darstellungen auf Stillleben. Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts gelang es trotz der Versuche der Republik Venedig, die Technik der Glasherstellung geheim zu halten, einigen Glasbläsern in die Länder nördlich der Alpen zu emigrieren und dort Glashütten zu gründen. Dabei waren die Abwerbeversuche König Ludwigs XVI. maßgeblich. Als „Glas à al façon de Venise“ lebte der venezianische Stil in Deutschland, in den Niederlanden und in Flandern weiter, wo bis heute reichhaltige Sammlungen erhalten sind. Bis heute ist das Muranoglas aufgrund seiner besonderen Feinheit weltweit berühmt; seine Fertigung wird ausschließlich von den Glasbläsern der Insel beherrscht. (ala)

AVMazzega

The Azienda Vetraia Mazzega was founded in 1946 by Angelo Vittorio in Mazzega in Murano. In 1950, Gianni Bruno Mazzega joined the family’s business and started to work with lamps. In 1960 the production of lamps under the brand AVMazzega was launched. By 1970 the company became the largest manufacturers of lamps in Italy. 1980 was followed by collaborations with internationally renowned designers such as De Lucchi and Piva. In the 1990s Mazzega began with the production of furniture for luxury hotels and retail shops of houseware brands. In 2000 Andrea Mazzega took over the management of the company.

Glass from Murano

Murano, a small group of islands in the Venetian Lagoon, is known worldwide for its high quality glass products. Due to fire-prevention reasons, all glass kilns of Venice were moved to the island in 1295. Here the glassmakers experimented with Roman glass techniques and in the late 15th century a method for producing multi-colored, flower-like patterned glass was developed, the so-called Millefioriglass. Even more significant, however, was the development of crystal glass (cristallo glas). This term first appeared in 1409. With this type of ultra-thin, feather-light and absolutely flawless and colorless crystal glass, glassmakers were able to create wonderfully elegant and sophisticated shapes. Thus in the Renaissance, those glass objects were the main source of income of the population of the lagoon city. Only a few pieces from this period have been preserved, but the variety of shapes and designs can for example be recreated by looking at still lifes. Despite the attempts of the Venetian Republic to keep the art of glassmaking a secret, some glassblowers were able to move across the Alps and establish glassworks in the countries north of the mountains. Thereby the enticement of King Louis XVI were decisively. As ‘glass à al façon de Venise’ the Venetian style circulated in Germany, the Netherlands and Flanders, where to this day rich collections have been preserved. Until today, Murano glass is famous worldwide because of its particular fineness; its production is exclusively mastered by the island’s glassblowers. (ala)
