Tiffany & Co. wurde 1837 von Charles Lewis Tiffany und John B. Young in New York gegründet und gilt als erstklassiges amerikanisches Luxusunternehmen. 1845 veröffentlichte Tiffany den ersten Versandhauskatalog der USA. Aufgrund der Lage des Hauptgeschäftes an der Fifth Avenue, das 1910 eröffnet wurde, war Tiffany's bald weithin bekannt und wurde sogar zum k.u.k. Hoflieferanten des Hofes in Wien ernannt. Charles Lewis Tiffany sicherte sich seinen Ruf als „King of Diamonds“ mit dem Erwerb des weltgrößten gelben Diamanten im Jahr 1878 und mit der Einführung des klassischen Tiffany-Verlobungsringes – einem Solitärring mit 6 Krappen - im Jahr 1886.
