A PAIR OF LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE RUSSIAN ICONS, THE LAST PART OF THE 20TH CENTURY. The first depicting the Resurrection and Descent at center surrounded with scenes from the Passion of Christ and bordered with 12 individual reserves each representing a month of the year and displaying the persons or events celebrated in that month. At top center the Old Testament Trinity, the lower central border with the Unburnt Thornbush Mother of God. The side borders with various Mother of God types and with other scenes interspersed throughout. 28.25 inches x 21 inches (71.5 x 53.5 cm). Together with a large icon of “All Saints”. The upper left quadrant depicting Holy Fools, Bishops and Patriarchs. The upper right quadrant depicting Royal or Imperial saints. At center an icon of Sophia Wisdom of God and below a gathering of Monastic saints. 28 inches x 21.74 inches (71.5 x 55 cm).
