A VERY FINE GERMAN CARVED FIGURE OF KING ARTHUR, 19TH CENTURY. Carved in full round of good proportions and anatomy, the figure displaying an exceptionally well-carved relief suite of decorative and chainmail armor. The shoulders carved with winged griffins and around his neck a linked chain displaying pendants of dragons carrying away sheep. The breast armor overall decorated with relief carved winged dragons, and the armorial shield with fleur-de-lis and prowling lions. Resting on an integral carved circular base set in a square raised plinth with carved plaque, “ARTUR KONIG V. ENGLAND” and signed with the conjoined initials AR. Some losses. Height 16.25 inches (42 cm).
