The carefully executed lot, by a presently unknown hand, is filled with various symbolism. The central figure is the young John the Baptist shown at left.  At his feet is the infant Christ who will, in the not too distant future, once again kneel before John as he is baptized by him while the Spirit of the Lord descends upon him like a dove. To the right are palms like those which the followers of Christ will cover the road leading into Jerusalem as he enters the city on a donkey only days before he is crucified. In the lower left corner hiding in the shadows is a white Easter lily hinting of the Resurrection and the sky reflects the newborn sunrise, soon to illuminate all the land. And in the background is the ever faithful and obedient Virgin Mary who holds her hand to her heart in expectation of the future sorrow she will endure – must endure, as must we all.
