Karl Schönbrunn studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and quickly developed a reputation as a painter of historical and religious themes.  His works still exist in fresco form in numerous churches both in Austrian and Italy. His painting, The Temptation of St. Anthony (1864) is located in the gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, Austria.

Godfrey of Bouillon (1060 – 1100) was a medieval Frankish knight who was one of the leaders of the First Crusade from 1096 until his death. He was the Lord of Bouillon, from which he took his byname, from 1076 and the Duke of Lower Lorraine from 1087. After the successful seige of Jerusalem in 1099, Godfrey became the first ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, although he refused the title "King"; as he believed that the true King of Jerusalem was Christ; preferring the title of "Advocate of the Holy Sepulchre".

The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, a Roman Catholic order of knighthood under the protection of the Pope, traces its roots to Duke Godfrey of Bouillon. In 1496, Pope Alexander VI created the office of Grand Master of the Order, and the office was vested in the papacy where it remained until 1949 and since then a cardinal has been grand master. The Pope is sovereign of the Order, and it enjoys the protection of the Holy See and has its legal seat at Vatican City to this day.
