Made using European lacquer, gold on a black background with Chinese-style decoration
The upper section opens up with two doors and the middle section is divided into shelves. The bottom section is made up of four drawers. It is supported on five cabriole legs.
Elegantly decorated with palatial scenes, carriages, mythical beasts, richly dressed people, musicians etc.
This type of furniture, produced in England, was enormously popular in the 18th century, and was in great demand in Europe, especially from the royal palaces. Much of this furniture was made to be exported to Spain, Portugal and Germany. England and the Netherlands were the first countries to copy oriental lacquer work.
