Francucci painted this subject several times. In most of these works he locates the figural group, which includes Saint Joseph and the infant Saint John, so close to the edge of the painting that they take up almost the entire image (cf. further examples in the Fototeca Zeri). The green curtain closing the top of the work can almost be regarded as Francucci's trademark, and the smooth texture of the figures' skin and their sharply contoured eyes are comparable to those in other, surely ascribed works by the artist.

Das Sujet der Mystischen Vermählung der Heiligen Katharina hat Francucci mehrfach gemalt. Dabei ordnet er die Figurengruppe, zu der auch der Heilige Joseph und der Johannesknabe hinzukommen, gerne so nah an den Bildrand, dass diese meistens die gesamte Bildfläche füllt (siehe weitere Beispiele in Fototeca Zeri). Das Motiv des quer hängenden grünen Vorhanges, das unsere Komposition oben abschließt, ist geradezu ein Markenzeichen für Francucci. Vergleichbar mit den gesicherten Werken dieses vorwiegend in Bologna tätigen Malers ist auch der Figurentyp mit dem glatten Inkarnat und den scharf geschnittenen Augen.
