The attribution of this work has been confirmed by Prof. Mina Gregori. The charming work is characterised by its elegant Mannerist style, typical vivid colour palette and boldly twisting and elongated figures. The piece occupies a special place in Imparato's oeuvre as it was made for private devotion, which was highly unusual for an artist who worked almost entirely on public commissions. It displays strong stylistic parallels to the "Adoration of the Shepherds" in the Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo.
