Walther Bernt, München, 20.8.1968, als Cornelis Biltius (in Kopie).
Provenienz
Rheinische Privatsammlung.
Jacob Biltius, der in Den Haag, Amsterdam, Maastricht und Antwerpen tätig war, schuf nahezu ausschließlich Stillleben, vornehmlich mit erlegten Vögeln oder Jagdgerät. Der Künstler malte seine Bilder häufig in einer Trompe-l'oeil-Manier, wobei die Objekte mit dem Ziel der Augentäuschung so wirken, als seien sie vor einer weißgetünchten Wand an einen Nagel gehängt. Unser Gemälde ist hierfür ein überzeugendes Beispiel. Der Sohn und Schüler von Jacob Biltius, Cornelius, setzte die Tradition seines Vaters ebenso erfolgreich fort.

He often painted his works in trompe l'oeil manner, in which the items appear at first glance to have been hung on a nail before a whitewashed wall. The present work is a fine example of this style. Biltius' son and pupil Cornelis successfully continued in the tradition of his father.
