Tagore (1840-1914) was a pious Hindu, wealthy land owner and gem specialist. He earned worldwide scientific reputation, however, by extensive researches into Hindu music and drama. The present monograph exemplifies the eight principal Sentiments of Indian musical theatre by pictorial scenes from Tableaux vivants invented by the author. Tagore strongly promoted musical practice, he founded and maintained the Bengal Music School and Academy of Music. - [strong]II.[/strong] Only edition. A follower to the preceding item: lithographed scenes from Tableaux vivants performed in Tagore's house. This time the ten incarnations of Vishnu on earth are represented. - Bold autograph dedication by the author on front fly-leaf of both titles. The dedicatee was His Excellence, Count Münster, the Imperial German Ambassador at London, i.e. the German diplomat Georg zu Münster (1820-1902). - Foxing to both works. Bound identical in dark green half-morocco with cloth-covered boards, richly gilt, hinges and corners somewhat chafed.
