Die Werke 5-6 (Hexapetalo u. Supplementum) erschienen erst 1764-77. Hauptwerk des Leipziger Arztes und Botanikers, das hauptsächlich durch sein besonderes System bekannt wurde: Rivinus klassifizierte die Pflanzen nach der Form ihrer Blumenkrone. Die Kupfer mit entsprechenden schönen und fein gestochenen Pflanzendarstellungen. Kollation versch. Exemplare teilw. abweichend, vorliegend enthält Teil 4 nur 139 statt 140 Tafeln wie bei Stafleu-C. (zählt 138, 139 a u. b). u. VD 17. - Gebräunt, vereinzelt stärker, teilw. stockfleckig, Tafeln mit hs. Numerierung (in Teil 2 etwas fehlerhaft). First edition, 2 vols., contains the first four volumes of Rivinus's fine illustrated works, setting out his system of classification based on floral structure. "He was one of the first to use the binomial system of nomenclature" (de Belder). Together with 385 engr. plates (of 386? as in Stafleu-C.). Browned, some foxing, ms. numbering to plates. Bound in contemporary calf, rubbing, rebacked expertly to style.
