Marchand war Kapitän, der Text stammt jedoch von dem bedeutenden Wissenschaftler Fleurieu. Die Reise diente u.a zur erfolgreichen Erprobung des von ihm gefundenen "horloge maritime". - Unbeschnitten, Textbände mit bräunendem Wasserrand im oberen Rand. "The first French commercial voyage to the Northwest Coast and only the second French circumnavigation. This was a successful voyage but a commercial failure. Marchand was unable to sell his furs, and upon return to France they were impounded by a revolutionary faction and eventually perished. The engraved plates includes five of Alaska and the Northwest Coast, four of Marquesan interest, and a small map of Hawaii" (Forbes).
