Schmiedel. - Historiae plantarum fasciculus I (von 2). 2 Tle. in 1 Bd. Nürnberg, Seligmann, 1753-1759. Fol. (44,5:30,5 cm). Mit 2 gleichen gest. Titelvign., 4 (2 gleichen) gest. Kopfvign., 22 Holzschn.-Taf. u. 35 (15 altkol.) Kupfertaf. 3 (statt 4) Bll., LVI, 130 S.; 2 Bll., 43 S. Hldr. d. 19. Jh., Leder tlw. abgerieben, Deckel lose.
Nissen, BBI 700; Wellisch B 11 (1753); Dunthorne 122; de Belder 130; Plesch 288 - "The partial edition of Gesner's botanical encyclopedia on which he worked during the last decade of his life but could not finish due to his untimely death [1565]. The manuscript and illustrations went through many hands until they were bought by a German professor of botany, Christoph Jacob Trew who entrusted the edition of the text to his colleague, the professor of botany Casimir Christoph Schmiedel. Schmiedel contributed a biography of Gessner, and Trew wrote a chapter on the history of Gessner's botanical material" (Wellisch). Bd. 1 existiert auch mit den Erscheinungsjahren 1751 und 1754; die späteren wohl Titelauflage, da das Zwischentitelblatt (S. 1) noch 1751 datiert ist. Der vorliegende Tl. 1 von Bd. 2 (Historiae plantarum) in erster Ausgabe, er erschien erneut 1770/71 zusammen mit Tl. 2. Die Holzschnitte, jeweils 9 auf 1 Tafel, von den für Gesner geschnittenen Originalblöcken; die Kupfertafeln, die anstelle nicht mehr benutzbarer Blöcke geschnitten wurden, ebenfalls meist mit je 9 Abbildungen. - Wasserrandig u. tlw. sporenfleckig; Titel, mehrere Texts. sowie Tafeln im weißen Rand mit kl. Stempel; Titel stärker fleckig, lose u. mit Randläsuren. Fehlt der Vortitel. oRR.
With 22 woodcut plates and 35 (15 coloured) engr. plates. - Dampmarking throughout, mildew traces in places, small stamp to margin of all plates. Title stained and loose. Lacking half-title. 19th cent. half calf, heavily worn, both covers loose. Waf.
