Adrianus van Royen (1704-1779) war seit 1732 Professor der Botanik und der Medizin in Leiden, er "ist jedoch mehr Botaniker gewesen als Mediciner und hat in seiner 'Florae Leydensis prodromus' die durch ihn nach Linnaeus entworfene Reorganisation und Classification des botan. Gartens beschrieben" (Hirsch-H. IV, 906). "Important list of plants in the botanical garden at Leyden. Cited frequently in Linnaeus' Species plantarum (1753).
