"Orbis terrarum typus de integro multis in locis emendatus". Weltkarte in 2 Hemisphären; eingefaßt von ornamentalen Verzierungen, in der Mitte oben Armillarsphäre u. unten Windrose, oberhalb lat.-holl. Titel. Kol. Kupf. von P. Plancius (aus einer holl. Bibelausg., 1604); gest. von B. van Deutecum. 28,5:51 cm.

Eine der frühesten Karten von Plancius, erstmals 1590 erschienen, vorliegend im 2. Zustand mit dem Zusatz "Magallanica". - Gebräunt u. braunfleckig, Rückentext tlw. leicht durchschlagend; etwas gewellt. Seitl. alte Faltstellen tlw. geplatzt sowie oben u. unten einige kl. Randeinrisse rep. Bis an/in die Einfassung unter Passepartout gerahmt; ungeöffnet.
"Most of the maps prepared by Plancius are uncommon, if not rare, as they were not reprinted in standard atlas form. P. has introduced yet further changes of his own, based on the latest Portuguese information regarding the far west coast of America and the west coast of Asia" (Sh.). First published in 1590, here in its second state from a Dutch bible; with "Magellanica" at bottom. "It is clearly a successor of Rumold Mercator's world map of 1587" (Sch.). - Col. in full. Browned and spotted, light shine through of text in places; somewhat undulated. Repairs to splits to old foldings at sides and to small tears at upper and lower margin affecting engraved area. Framed under passepartout; unopened.
