Mit dem schönen Plan von Candia (37:50 cm): "Dissegno di Candia attaccata dal Turco sotto il comando del Primo Visir, et diffesa dall'Ecc.mo Sig. Marchese Villa, dal principio del attacco li 24, maggio, 1667, sino li 21. aprile 1668". Grundriß mit Umgebung, Belagerung u. Schiffsstaffage, gestochen von G. M. Belgrano, darunter ital. Legende 1-88. - Text gebräunt u. stockfleckig, vereinzelt kl. Wurmspur. Kupfer gering fleckig u. mit zwei Einrissen im Bund.
Scarce first edition. With large engr. folded plan (see above). Rostagno was secretary to Carlo Emmanuele II, Duke of Milan, who had sent Rostagno and his general the marquis Ghiron Francesco Villa to help the Venetians at the siege of Candia. Villa fought from 1665 until 1668. "Villa was accidentally killed by the premature explosion of a cannon December 1668. The account is more concerned with the war in Crete, than with incidents of travel" (Weber). - Browning and foxing to text, slight worming in places, slight spotting and two marginal tears to plan. Bound in old calf, worn, spine partly repaired.
