An abridged account of the penal code of the Qing (1644-1912). Main source is Thomas Staunton's 'Ta-Tsing-Leu-Lee, being the fundamental laws... of the Penal Code of China' in the French edition of 1812. After a historical introduction the author translates the headings of the seven parts and 436 sections into which Staunton divided the code. The tables are statistical. - Some browning throughout. Red half-calf, upper cover somewhat chafed.
