Neben der "Ethik" Spinozas Hauptwerk, die einzige von ihm selbst publizierte Schrift. "Spinoza's thought, a fusion of Cartesian rationalism ans the Hebraic tradition in which he grew up, is a solitary but crystal-clear exposition of the theory of natural right" (PMM). Aus gutem Grund anonym und mit fingiertem Druckort erschienen, wurde Juli 1674 von Wilhelm v. Oranien verboten (Knuttel, Verboden boeken 391). - Wie oft ohne das weiße Schlußblatt. - Ränder gebräunt, die letzten 5 Bll. mit leichtem Wasserrand. Wenige alte Anstreichungen u. Korrekturen in Tinte. First edition, 5th issue (errata corrected in text). - Browning to margins, slight waterstaining to last 5 leaves, a few old underlinings and corrections in ink.
