Interesting presentation of the world in 3 parts: one in Mercator's projection with the Pacific at center between 45 degrees North and South, therefore omitting the northern parts of Europe, Asia and North America resp. the southern tip of South America. These parts are just shown in the double hemispheres projected on the North resp. South Pole, the latter showing just large icebergs around the pole, but no land. The tracks of Cook's three voyages are indicated on all 3 maps. L. worked in Novara, and became director of the observatory in Turin in 1791. "Ses savants travaux sur l'astronomie, et surtout la mission qu'il avait remplie en Sardaigne pour dresser la carte topographique de cette île, lui firent donner la charge de géographe royal" (H.). Besides this one, H. mentions further a wall-map of Hungary, maps of Eastern Europe, Piemont and another world map of 1790. The former dedication erased. - Partly col. (coasts and tracks). Minor browning resp. dusty, few spotting. Cut to platemark at lower left with small repaired tear; altogether 3 traces of former folds, partly splitted and completely backed.
