Scarce anonymous map of Sardinia in its first state (of 2), ascribed by Bifolco/R. to C. Duchetti "in maniera dubitativa". Referring to the copy of Bertelli, Meurer writes: "The present 1562 map of Sardinia is copied from an archetype by an unknown author, which was first published a few years earlier by Fabio Licinio". Furthermore "it is not clear whether they come from three different plates or if there were three editions of the same plate" (Novacco), and "una terza priva di ogni indicazione dell'incisore" (Piloni) resp. "vi é poi una variante del Licinio senza nomi" (Perini). With the name "Sardegna" in the center of the map. - Watermark only to papermask: ladder in shield under six-pointed star (Italy, 1557ff.). - Uncol. Lightly toned. Cut close to neatline and mounted in papermask, thereby some marginal browning caused by paste. 2 tiny holes at left affecting image.
