Americae sive novi orbis, nova descriptio. Kol. Kupf.-Kte. (von A. Ortelius). Mit großer Rollwerkskart., 4 gr. Segelschiffen u. ornament. Verzierungen in den Ecken (jeweils ausgem.). 36,5:50,5 cm.
Burden 39.2; Broecke 9.2; Koeman III, 9000:31A; Tooley, America S. 320; Wagner 80; Goss 11; Wolff, America 109 u. Farbabb. S. 92; Ermen Nr. 2. - Abdruck von der 1. Platte ohne Verlegeradresse, 2. Zustand aus einer der 3 lat. Ausg. 1571-73. - Gereinigt u. stabilisiert, tlw. noch etwas fleckig. Der geplatzte Bug mit wenigen Löchern u. einige Bruchstellen im Bild restauriert; Ober- u. Unterrand hinterklebt.
"One of the main noticeable features of the map is the bulbous Chilean coastline; this was not corrected until his third plate" (Burden). First of 3 copperplates, second state (of 3) with the Azores correctly labelled. From one of the 3 Latin ed. 1571-73. - Col. in full. Cleaned and sized, still some spotting. Restorations to split and holes at centerfold, and to some cracks affecting image; upper and lower margin strengthened.
