When Frederick II of Prussia died in August 1786, he had bought a total of 21 large court dinner and dessert services for all his residences (in addition to his gold and 14 silver services).1 The so-called 'Blue Ribbon' Service was ordered one year before his death and was only finished and delivered after he died. A further plate from this service was sold at Christie's London, 1 May, 2002, lot 17. Most recently a plate sold at Lempertz Berlin, 21 April, 2018, lot 126.
