BODHIDARMA.
China. Ca. 16th/17th c.
Wood with partly textured lacquering with gold. This figure might be Bodhidarma (chin. Damo), the founder of the Zen Buddhist school, but although it could be the Luohan Kanakavatsa (Kyadaka Basha Sonja), who is shown with a fly whisk as attribute, too. The large fly whisk stands on the floor like a broom. With his right hand he holds his skirt, with the left he presents a pearl. Height 92,5cm, width 18cm. Condition A/B. Supplement: On a high base.
On the back of the figure three sealed cavities can be traced, which might be closed from consecration.
