China, 18th- early 19th centuryCarved in high relief with an array of overlapping ‘chrysanthemum petals’ emerging from a double wavy border. The use of chrysanthemum petals on Qianlong and early 19th century jades is well documented. It is likely that the present work took its inspiration from Mughal and Mughal-style jade carvings, popular with the Qing court at the time.
