New England Horseman's Saber, late 18th century. Brass hilt, the knuckle bow with down turned quillon and broad scalloped outboard edge, straight knuckle bow connecting to an ovoid pommel and reeded bone grip; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and three narrow fullers, trace of bluing on upper third of blade, red wool broadcloth washer at top of blade. Blade lg. 33, overall lg. 39 1/4 in. Condition: Hilt is toned to yellow, grip has hairline cracks, hilt is somewhat loose on the blade tang; blade toned mostly to gray with surface oxidation on the lower half, a few shallow nicks in the blade edge.
