A Cased Pair Of 18-Bore Silver-Mounted Flintlock Holster Pistols By William Newton, Grantham, Birmingham Silver Hallmarks For 1775, Maker's Mark Of Charles Freeth With reblued two-stage barrels (some loss of blueing) each slightly swamped towards the muzzle, turned at the girdle and engraved 'Grantham' along the top flat of the octagonal breech, the latter with a line of beadwork at the rear, grooved border engraved tangs each lightly decorated with foliage, bright signed border engraved flat bevelled locks and cocks, rollers, figured full stocks (one a working replacement, one fore-end repaired) each carved in relief with a shell behind the barrel tang, mounts comprising shaped border engraved side-plates each decorated with rococo ornament, cast and chased escutcheons each with a scallop shell above and engraved with owner's crest and motto 'RIGHT TO SHARE', border engraved spurred pommels each decorated with a martial trophy on both sides and with grotesque mask cap, trigger-guards each with scallop shell finial and engraved with a flower-head on the bow, turned ramrod-pipes, and later ramrods (tips missing): in later lined and fitted case with some accessories including brass-mounted three-way powder-flask embossed with two lines of vertical beadwork over each side, the exterior with circular brass escutcheon engraved 'C.D.
