A Very Rare 28-Bore English Lock (Type 1) Military Holster Pistol Circa 1640 With two-stage barrel incised with a line at the girdle, octagonal breech section struck with two marks, probably 'CB' crowned, and a crowned rose, the latter with incised 'S' on the left flat, and with deeply struck shield-shaped mark beneath, plain tang, flat lock secured by three side-nails (one replaced) and with buffer, separate pan secured by an external screw, horizontally acting sear, dog catch engaging with the tail of the cock, and bridle to the steel-spring, figured full stock (old chip at the tail of the lock and to the right of the tang) stamped with a shield-shaped mark (?) on one side of the butt, iron mounts (muzzle band missing) comprising slender band around the ovoidal pommel, trigger-guard secured by a screw through the pointed finial and engaging with the barrel tang, single ramrod-pipe, and later iron-tipped ramrod, the trigger working on a pin above the tail of the lock-plate (some old pitting); together with a soft leather holster (2) 40 cm. barrel Footnotes: Literature John S.
