A black basalt bust of Admiral Lord Duncan, circa 1805 Modelled gazing to his left, the waisted plinth base with relief trophies of war including a fouled anchor and incised 'DUNCAN' below, 19.8cm high Footnotes: A slightly larger model in buff-coloured stoneware is impressed for 'Herculaneum', see the Victoria & Albert Museum Collection, inv. no. 414:1119-1885. Although black basalt wares were produced at Herculaneum it is possible the mould was used by another contemporary factory explaining the slightly smaller scale of the present lot. It has been suggested that Pierre Stephan was responsible for the modelling. A similar example was sold by Bonhams on 23 April 2024, lot 5. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
