A BRITISH 3RD DRAGOON GUARDS PATTERN 1756/81 LAND SERVICE PISTOL, c. 1760. 12 1/8 in., .58 caliber barrel with ring decorated breech, the top marked with Tower Ordnance proof marks and engraved '3D D GDS'; Ordnance lock with double line border engraving and pointe tail engraved 'VERNON/1760' and with a crown over 'GR' and stamped crowned broad arrow mark below the pan; walnut stock with 1786-dated storekeeper's mark, inspector's marks near the trigger guard and in the rammer channel and marked 'R' behind the side plate; proper ordnance brass furniture including a butt cap with long ears, thumb piece engraved 'D/11', trigger guard with acorn finial, convex side plate with long tail, cast brass rammer pipes and a later wood rammer with brass tip. Overall lg. 19 1/2 in. Condition: Barrel toned to brown, lock toned to gray/brown, stock has an old darkened varnish surface, brass toned to yellow, action functions properly.
