A George V mahogany Coronation chair, 1911 In the George III style, the pierced vase-shaped splat above a horsehair upholstered drop in seat, on chamfered square-section front legs, the back and base stamped G.R.V CORONATION, and metal plaque engraved Margaret Viscountess Strathallan, together with a white felt band embroidered with gilt metal thread depicting a crown above crossed sword and mitre and 1911, 46.5cm wide x 46.5cm deep x 97cm high, (18in wide x 18in deep x 38in high) (2) Footnotes: The Coronation of George V and his wife, Mary, took place at Westminster Abbey on 22nd June 1911. George was the second son of Edward VII and became heir to the throne after the death of his elder brother Albert. The ceremony was very similar to that of his father's in 1902.
