A Chinese export porcelain part dinner service in the Blue Fitzhugh pattern Circa 1780 Each piece painted in rich cobalt-blue tones with the characteristic floral medallion encircled by four large floral sprays and a dense trellis and spear-head band at the rim, comprising: four circular hot water plates, 28cm wide, and one larger example, 41cm wide; two fluted fruit bowls, 28.5cm wide; a tureen, cover and stand, the stand 38cm wide; a twin-handled serving dish, and one other lacking one handle (both lacking covers), the larger 35.5cm wide; two square-shaped dishes, 24.75cm wide; four dinner plates, 24.5 diameter; four small shallow bowls, 15.5cm diameter; three rice bowls, 11cm diameter; and a small twin-handled ice pail, 15cm wide (25). Footnotes: It is highly likely that it was James Drummond, 8th Viscount Strathallan (1767-1851) that brought the present lot back from China when he returned to Scotland around 1807. Starting his career with the East India Company, Drummond became assistant to the Head of the Committee at Canton in 1792. He continued to climb the ranks, eventually holding the position of President in Canton for six years before returning home.
