Nine English delftware tiles and eight border tiles, circa 1740-75 Mostly in blue, including Liverpool tile with an armed gentleman atop an elaborate cartouche, together with a rare Vauxhall geometric tile in red and blue, a Liverpool tile with a formal flower vase and cherub head corners, a London manganese Flower Vase tile, a Bristol or Liverpool tile with a formal floral pattern, three Liverpool tiles with vines, a Bristol vine tile, a pair of Lambeth border tiles with a keyfret pattern, and six floral border tiles from Liverpool and London, approx 12.3-13cm wide (17) Footnotes: Provenance Graham Slater Collection The first-mentioned tile, is illustrated by Jonathan Horne in English Tin-Glazed Tiles (1989), no.414, where the author notes that it is copying a well-known Dutch design made at Rotterdam around 1700. A matching shard with the geometric pattern in red and blue was found on the site of the Vauxhall Pothouse, see Betts and Weinstein, Tin Glazed Tiles from London (2010), no.438. A fragment of the formal floral design with scrolling foliate borders was found at the Samuel Gilbody site in Liverpool in 1966. This pattern was employed at Bristol. The keyfret pattern corresponds to shards found near the Norfolk House Pothouse in Lambeth, see Tyler, Betts and Stephenson, London's Delftware Industry (2008), p.104, fig.D.19 (T99).
