A very similar example in the Victoria & Albert Museum is illustrated and discussed by Michael Archer, Delftware (1997), p.390, J.32. Archer suggests that it may indeed have been used for soy, or perhaps for the measuring or dispensing of other food stuffs, based on two examples inscribed for tradesman.
