A very rare English delftware bird feeder, mid-18th century Possibly Bristol, of U-shape with an everted rim and flat back, a drop finial below, painted with blue with a continuous European landscape depicting a gentleman standing with a brace of rabbits suspended from a pole over his shoulder, a lady seated before him and his dog by his side, flanked by 'sponged trees', the reverse with a sailing boat before a church and distant buildings, 7.5cm high Footnotes: Provenance With Jonathan Horne, 1990 Graham Slater Collection A wall pocket of closely related shape attributed to Bristol (Temple Back, Thomas Cantle) is illustrated by Michael Archer, Delftware (2013), p.311, no.I15.
