[Apollo 9] THE FIRST APOLLO EVA: Russell Schweickart spacewalking and taking photographs from LM Spider's porch, viewed from CSM gumdrop's hatch David Scott, 3-13 March 1969 Printed 1969. Vintage chromogenic print on fibre-based Kodak paper [NASA image AS9-19-2983]. With 'A Kodak Paper' watermark on the reverse, numbered 'NASA AS9-19-2983' in red in the top margin (issued by NASA Manned Spacecraft Centre, Houston, Texas). 20.3 x 25.4 cm. (8 x 10 in.) Historical context David Scott captured this remarkable photograph from the open hatch of CSM Gumdrop, docked with LM Spider, as he partially emerged for a stand-up EVA, remaining tethered to the spacecraft via a life-support umbilical system. Floating just outside Spider, Russell Schweickart performs the first Apollo spacewalk, secured to the LM's front porch by gold-painted foot restraints—nicknamed the 'golden slippers.' His visor reflects the docked CSM/LM spacecraft and Earth, while in his left hand, he holds a Hasselblad camera, simultaneously capturing images of Scott standing in Gumdrop's open hatch. In the midst of this extraordinary moment, Scott playfully prompts Schweickart: 073:09:19 Scott (Gumdrop): 'Why don't you say hello to the camera or something?' 073:09:23 Schweickart (PLSS): 'Hello there, camera. Boy, is this great!' For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
