ROTFIGURIGE SCHALE VOM TYPUS B, DEM SABOUROFF-MALER ZUGESCHRIEBEN Dm. 27 cm. Ton. Attisch, um 450 v.C.Im Tondo, von einem linksläufigen Mäander gerahmt, zwei Manteljünglinge. Einer mit Wanderstock in der Rechten nach rechts, vor ihm der andere in Frontalansicht, die rechte Hand in der Hüfte, den Kopf zu ihm gewandt. Auf der Aussenseite beidseitig je vier Figuren von Jünglingen und Jungen in Himatia. Eine Strigilis und Aryballoi lokalisieren die Szenen in die Palästra. Um die Henkel Ranken mit Palmetten und Lotusblüten. Im 19. Jh. mit Hilfe einer Vielzahl von nicht mehr vorhanden Metallklammern zusammengesetzt. Fehlstellen ergänzt. Keine Ergänzung der figürlichen Malerei.Provenienz: Ehem. Slg. William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877), Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire, durch Erbschaft an den Vorbesitzer weitergegeben. D. 27 cm. Clay. Attic, ca. 450 B.C.Within the tondo, encircled by a border of continuous leftward maeanders, are two youths draped in himatia. One stands to right, a walking stick in his right hand, and faces another standing frontal, with head turned to left, his right arm akimbo. Outside, courting scenes of youths and boys, all cloaked in himatia (four figures per side). Strigils and aryballoi suspended in the field set the scenes in the palaistra. At each handle, an ornamental complex of palmettes on tendrils tipped with pendant lotus. Restored from fragments, in the 19th century, with a multitude of metal clamps, now removed. Lacunae filled, with no retouching of the figure-work.Provenance: Formerly Coll. William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877), Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire, and thence by descent to the previous owner.
