ROTFIGURIGE SCHALE IN DER SPÄTEN ART DES DOURIS
Dm. 21.2 cm. Ton.
Attisch, um 470 v.C.
Frauengemachszene im Tondo, gerahmt durch ein Band von Kreuzplatten und Pseudomäandern. Links eine Frau auf einem Schemel sitzend, ihre Begleiterin stehend, den Kopf leicht gesenkt und den rechten Arm ausgestreckt. Beide Gefährtinnen in Chiton, Himation und Sakkos. Zu ihren Füssen ein Wollkorb, oben an der Wand ein Spiegel. Zusammengesetzt, Bruchstellen übermalt, Mitte des Tondos verloren. Teil des Bandes, Rückseite des Sakkos’ bis zur Schulter der sitzenden sowie unterer Teil des Himations der stehenden Frau restauriert. Oberflächen teilweise berieben.
Provenienz: Ehem. Slg. W. Rosenbaum (1894-1984), Ascona.
Der Stil dieser Schale erinnert an die späten Arbeiten des Douris und an solche in seiner Art. Möglicherweise ist sie ein sehr frühes Werk des Malers von München 2660, eines der sog. frühen, klassischen Nachfolger des Douris. In seiner Reifezeit wird der Maler von München 2660 im Wesentlichen ein Nachahmer des Akestorides-Malers; s. ARV2 783-784; Para. 417-418; BAdd 289. A RED-FIGURE CUP IN THE LATE MANNER OF DOURIS

Domestic scene with two women in a tondo framed by a band of cross-squares and pseudo-maeanders. At left a woman sits on a stool with her companion standing at her side, her head bowed slightly and right arm extended. Both are clad in chiton, himation and sakkos. At their feet is a wool basket and suspended on the wall a mirror. Reassembled from fragments, breaks repainted; the centre of the tondo lost. Part of the border and the back of the seated woman’s sakkos as far as the shoulder restored, as is the lower edge of the standing woman’s himation. Surfaces worn in places.
Provenance: Formerly Coll. W. Rosenbaum (1894-1984), Ascona.
The style of this cup recalls late works by Douris and others in his manner. It is possibly a very early work by one of his so-called Early Classical followers, the Painter of Munich 2660, who in his maturity essentially became an imitator of the painter of Akestorides; see ARV2 783-784; Para. 417-418; BAdd 289.
