Dieser recht große Tabaktopf aus handbemalter Keramik besteht aus einem etwas unscheinbaren Unterteil in Form eines ovalen Holzbottichs und einem figuralen Deckel. Dieser zeigt auf einer stilisierten kleinen Wiese ein Mädchen, das seitlich auf einem Schwein sitzt und sich dabei an dessen Ohren festhält. Sie ist bäuerlich gekleidet, mit Holzpantinen und einem Kopftuch. Bewusst hat der Keramikkünstler Tier und Mensch dabei so arrangiert, dass eine subtil „versaute“ Erotik entsteht – so ist es auf den ersten Blick nicht zu erkennen, ob hier der nackte Hintern des Mädchens oder der des Schweins gezeigt wird.

Der Tabaktopf ist in gutem Zustand, mit nur einem kleinen Abplatzer an der Schnauze sowie einem kleinen Haarriss am oberen Rand. Die Farben sind teilweise abgerieben und erneuert worden. Der Topf ist am Boden signiert mit BB für Bernhard Bloch, der Modellnummer 332 und dem Kürzel DEP.

Bernhard Bloch (1836-1909)
Bloch war die herausragende Unternehmerpersönlichkeit aus der Region um Eichwald in Böhmen, in der man die sogenannte Eichwald-Keramik herstellte. Diese war qualitätsvolle Gebrauchs- und Dekorationskeramik für die Mittelschicht, preiswert und originell. Zu Beginn der Produktion stellte Bloch hauptsächlich Artikel für Raucher her, Zigarrenhalter und Tabakdosen in figürlicher und naturalistischer Ausgestaltung. Zu den bekanntesten Marken Blochs zählen das eingepresste Monogramm BB und der Schriftzug Eichwald.

This rather large tabacco jar from handmade ceramics consists of a somewhat unprepossessing subpart in form of an oval wooden tub with a figural lid. This shows a girl sitting sideways on a pig and holding it by its ears. She is dressed in peasant’s clothes with wooden shoes and a head scarf. The artist has arranged girl and pig deliberately in a way that a subtle erotic is created – at a first glance it is not recognizable if the naked bottom is that of the girl or that of the pig.

The tobacco jar is in good condition, with just a small nick on the pig’s snout and a minimal craze at the upper border. The colours have been partially rubbed off and renewed. The jar is signed at the bottom with the „BB“ mark for Bernhard Bloch, the model number 332 and the abbreviation DEP.

Bernhard Bloch (1836-1909)
Bloch was the most significant entrepreneur from the region around Eichwald in Bohemia where the so called Eichwald-ceramics come from. This was high-quality decorative and usable ceramic for the middle class, affordable and original. With the beginning of his production, Bloch focused on articles for smokers, such as cigarette holders and tobacco jars in figural and naturalistic configuration. The most known mark from Bloch is the pressed in monogram BB and the lettering Eichwald.
