Diese Barometergarnitur ist ein schönes Modell eines so genannten ‚Banjo‘-Barometers, das in England in der Zeit um 1880 gefertigt wurde. Das Instrument stammt, gemäß der Signatur im untersten Anzeigefenster, aus der Hand des Herstellers Braham in Bath. Über einen Schnurzug und einen Zeiger wird der Barometerstand auf dem großen versilberten Zifferblatt angezeigt; Stellzeiger befindet sich im Glas. Daneben ist ein Hygrometer am oberen Ende des schön furnierten Holzgehäuses zu sehen. Auf dem schmalen Steg darunter zeigt ein Thermometer die Temperatur in Grad Celsius und in Fahrenheit an. Ein bombierter runder Spiegel bildet daraufhin ein weiteres Element der vertikal angeordneten Anzeigen des Barometers. Am unteren Ende ist schließlich in einem Fenster eine Wasserwaage zu sehen, das zur exakten Ausrichtung des Messgeräts an der Wand dient.

Die Barometergarnitur befindet sich in einem guten Zustand mit kleinen, altersbedingten Gebrauchsspuren. Die originale Quecksilbersäule im Inneren des Gehäuses wurde neu justiert. In der Höhe misst das Instrument 90 cm, in der Breite 25 cm und in der Tiefe 8 cm. Es ist voll funktionsfähig; ohne Garantie auf Genauigkeit. (cbo)

This beautiful model of a so called ‘banjo’ barometer was built in England at the time around 1880. The instrument was manufactured by Braham in Bath, according to the signature inside the display at the lower end. The barometric pressure is indicated through the drawstring and the hands on the silver-plated dial. Besides, the model features a hygrometer at the upper end of the finely veneered casing. Underneath there is a thermometer which has two scales with Celsius and Fahrenheit legends. A cambered mirror adds another element to the vertically arranged displays. At the lower end of the barometer there is finally a water level visible inside the display which helps to align the instrument precisely on the wall.

The ‘banjo’ barometer is in a good condition with small traces of age and use. The barometric column inside the casing is in original condition and has once been readjusted. The instrument measures 90 cm in height, 25 cm in width and 8 cm in depth. It is fully functional; but long term precision and regularity cannot be guaranteed. (cbo)
