Dieses Paar neoklassizistischer Trophäen geht auf Entwürfe des Mathieu Legoupil von 1725-35 zurück. Legoupil war sculpteur ornemaniste und fertigte unter anderem Wanddekorationen für zahlreiche Schlösser an, so z.B. für das Château de Bercy östlich von Paris. Die Trophäen sind aufwändig modelliert und zeigen oben je eine gebundene Schleife. Die Trophäe zur Kunst präsentiert an einem stofflich gestaltetem Band herabhängend Motive zum Thema Kunst: Musikinstrumente, Architekturskizzen, eine Palette mit Pinsel und ein Medaillon. Die Trophäe der Wissenschaft bietet auf gleicher Weise wissenschaftliche Instrumente dar, wie einen Globus, ein Teleskop und ein Buch. Beide Trophäen sind zudem mit Lorbeerblättern und -kränzen geschmückt.

Zustand:
Die herrlichen Trophäen befinden sich in einem guten, altersgerechten Zustand. Sie zeigen natürliche Alters- und Gebrauchsspuren in Form von leichtem Oberflächenabrieb und feinem Krakelée, partiellen Bestoßungen sowie kleinsten Fehlstellen und Rissen. Unter UV-Licht werden stellenweise winzige Retuschen sichtbar. Einige Teile sind locker. Die Maße betragen ca. 81 x 73 cm und ca. ca. 79 x 67 cm. (nlu)

This pair of neo-classical trophies is based upon designs by Mathieu Legoupil from 1725-35. Legoupil was sculpteur ornemaniste and produced besides other things wall decorations for many palaces, e.g. for Château de Bercy east of Paris. The trophies are elaborately modeled and each display a tied ribbon at the top. The trophy for art bears, drooping from a materially designed strap, motifs on the theme of art: musical instruments, architectural sketches, a palette with paintbrushes and a medallion. The trophy for sciences represents in the same manner scientific instruments, such as a globe, a telescope and a book. Both trophies are furthermore fitted with laurel leaves and wreaths.

Condition:
The splendid trophies are in a good condition, consistent with age. They bear natural signs of age and wear comprising slight surface abrasion and fine craquelure, partial bumps as well as small blemishes and cracks. Under UV-light tiny touch ups appear in places. Certain elements are loose. The dimensions measure c. 81 x 73 cm and c. 79 x 67 cm. (nlu)
