Seit seiner Einführung bildete der Kamin den dekorativen Mittelpunkt des Raumes. In den wichtigsten Räumen der Paläste positioniert, die Mitte einer Wand einnehmend, wurden sie meist mit Wappen verziert und waren damit Symbol des sozialen Status der Hausherren. Die Blütezeit der Kamine war das 17. und 18. Jahrhundert. Kamine waren die Mittepunkte des gesellschaftlichen Lebens in der hochentwickelten Wohnkultur des aristokratischen Lebens sowie in der bürgerlichen Gesellschaft des Ancién Regime. Weder der Galante Stil, noch die literarischen Cercles Précieux des 17. Jahrhunderts, noch die Aufklärung sind ohne das Ambiente einer um einem Kamin versammelten Gesellschaft vorstellbar.

Zustand:
Die Kaminfassade zeigt Alters- und Gebrauchsspuren. Teils sind Spuren von Restaurierungen zu sehen. Die Kanten sind stellenweise bestoßen. Kratzer und partielle Verschmutzungen sind auszumachen. Die Maße betragen 121 x 162 x 23 cm. (nlu)

Since its introduction, the fireplace has been the decorative focal point of the room. Installed in the most important rooms of palaces, occupying the center of a wall, they were mostly decorated with crests and coats of arms and were thus symbol of the social status of the landlords. The heyday of fireplaces were the 17th and 18th centuries. Fireplaces were the center of social life in the highly sophisticated domestic culture of aristocratic living as well as in the civil society of the Ancién Regime. Neither the Galant style, nor the literary Cercles Précieux of the 17th century, nor the readings of the Age of Enlightenment are conceivable without the ambience of a party gathered around a fireplace.

Condition:
The chimney bordering shows signs of age and wear. Partially traces of restorations can be seen. The edges are bumped in places. Scratches and partial soiling are visible. The dimensions measure 121 x 162 x 23 cm. (nlu).
