Holzskulptur Christus am Kreuze, Oberitalien ,18. Jahrhundert Lindenholz, schwarz

Diese imposante Holzskulptur des Christus am Kreuze wurde Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts in Oberitalien gefertigt und zeigt von einer virtuosen Schnitzkunst. Gekonnt sind die Proportionen und anatomischen Details wiedergegeben. Die Skulptur wurde später schwarz gefasst. Den unteren Bereich des Kreuzes schmückt eine plastische Darstellung des Schädels Adams. Nach den Apokryphen, trat der Schädel durch das Beben nach dem Sterben Christi hervor und wurde von seinem Blut benetzt. So wird der Schädel oft am Fuße des Kreuzes dargestellt.

Zustand:
Die Skulptur ist in gutem Zustand mit altersbedingten Gebrauchsspuren. Das Kreuz ist verso von fremder Hand mit Ritzzeichen versehen. Die Verschraubung ist neu. Die Gesamthöhe beträgt 113,5 cm. (tfa)

This imposing wooden sculpture of Christ on the cross was made in northern Italy in the mid-18th century and displays a virtuoso carving. The proportions and anatomical details are skillfully rendered. The sculpture was later painted black. The lower part of the cross is adorned with a sculptural representation of the skull of Adam. Some believe that the skull appeared after the death of Christ and was wetted with his blood. It is thus a common representation found at the foot of the cross.

Condition:
The sculpture is in good condition with signs of wear consistent with age. The cross is incised on the verso by an unknown hand. The screwing is new. The total height is 113.5 cm. (tfa)
