Der Heilige Sergius war der Gründer des Dreifaltigkeitsklosters in Sergijew Possad. Ab 1450 begann die Reliquienverehrung des Heiligen Sergius und es folgten zahlreihe Wallfahrten und Berichte von Heilungswundern an seinem Grab. Ein Highlight der Ikone, die den Heiligen am Grab seiner ebenfalls heilig gesprochenen Eltern Kyrill und Maria zeigt, ist die Brodüre mit geflochtenem Muster, die das zentrale Bildfeld umgibt.

Zustand:
Die Ikone ist insgesamt in einem guten, altersgemäßen Zustand. Teilweise zeigt die Oberfläche feines Krakele und längere Risse, insbesondere unten links. Stellenweise ist die Farbschicht berieben. Die Maße betragen 22,3 x 17,9 cm. (nlu)

Saint Sergius was the founder of the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. The veneration of his relicts started around 1450 and was followed by numerous pilgrimages and reports of miracle cures at his coffin. A highlight of the icon, showing Sergius praying for his parents Cyril and Maria, is the border with a fine interwoven patternthat surrounding the central image .

Condition:
The icon overall is in a good condition consistent with age. In places the surface bears fine craquelure and larger cracks, especially at the lower left. The paint is rubbed in places. The dimensions are 22.3 x 17.9 cm. (nlu)
