Historisch wertvolles Zeugnis der christlichen Andacht

Der Begriff Kalvarienberg bezeichnet zunächst die Hinrichtungsstätte Jesus Christus. Während der Gegenreformation entstanden zudem zahlreiche, teils kleinere Nachbildungen der Kreuzigung Christi, welche zur privaten Andacht genutzt wurden und ebenfalls die Bezeichnung Kalvarienberge innehaben. Auf angebotenem sakralem Kunstwerk wird die durch die Schlange dargestellte Erbsünde direkt mit dem Kreuztod Jesu in Verbindung gestellt.

Zustand:
Die Skulptur zeigt übliche Alters- und Gebrauchsspuren. Fassung und Vergoldung sind teils berieben und bestoßen. Corpus Christi fehlt. Kleinere Fehlstellen sind auszumachen. Die Maße betragen ca. 75 x 40,5 x 16 cm. (nlu)

Historically important testimony of Christian devotion

The term Calvary initially refers to the place of Jesus Christ’s execution. During the Counter-Reformation numerous, sometimes smaller replicas of the Crucifixion were also produced, which were used by Catholics for private devotion and are also called Calvary. On offered sacral artwork, the original sin represented by the serpent, is placed in direct relation to Jesus’s death on the cross.

Condition:
The sculpture bears natural signs of age and wear. Paint and gilding are partially rubbed and bumped. Figure of the body of Christ is lost. Smaller blemishes can be seen. The dimensions measure c. 75 x 40.5 x 16 cm. (nlu)
