Sehr schöne Ausgabe der Zeitschrift Verve mit Lithografien und Reproduktionen des Künstlers zu biblischen Themen und einer typischen Gelegenheitszeichnung als besonderem Highlight

Zustand:
Das Buch mit der Zeichnung und den Lithografien ist insgesamt in gutem Zustand. Eine Bezeichnung wohl von fremder Hand auf der Zeichnungsseite wurde entfernt. Die Seiten sind jeweils ca. 2 cm breit entlang der Kanten minimal, fleckig gebräunt. Der lithografierte Pappeinband ist an den Ecken, Kanten und am Rücken leicht bestoßen und berieben sowie minimal angeschmutzt. Das Buch misst 36 x 27 x 2,7 cm.

Marc Chagall (1887-1985)
Der russisch-französische Maler Marc Chagall ist besonders für seine biblischen Motive bekannt. Sowohl in seinem malerischen, druckgrafischen Werk als auch in seinen Mosaiken und in den von ihm gestalteten Fenstern und Theaterkulissen verwendete er die gleichen, stets wiederkehrenden Symbole. Als einer der bedeutendsten Maler des 20. Jahrhunderts verlieh der „Maler-Poet“ dem Expressionismus seine ganz eigene Prägung. Nach einer ersten Ausbildung an privaten Kunstschulen in Sankt Petersburg ging er 1910 nach Paris, wo er im regen Austausch mit anderen Avantgarde Künstlern stand. Inspiration fand er darüber hinaus bei Besuchen der Salons, Ausstellungen und Museen der bewegten Metropole. Nach dem ersten Weltkrieg, den Chagall in Russland verbrachte, ging er nach Berlin und kehrte später wieder nach Paris zurück. Auch nachdem er 1941 nach Amerika emigriert war, zog es ihn 1948 wieder in seine „ville lumière“ Paris. Zeit seines Lebens erhielt Marc Chagall zahlreiche Aufträge, deren Vorbereitung und Ausführung ihn rund um den Globus führten. Schon zu Lebzeiten wurde er mit zahllosen internationalen Ausstellungen, Retrospektiven und Kunstpreisen geehrt.

Very nice issue of the magazine Verve with lithographs and reproductions by the artist to biblical themes and a typical opportunity drawing as special highlight

Condition:
The book with the drawing and the lithographs is in overall good condition. An inscription presumably by another hand on the drawing page had been removed. The pages are each minor mottled toned along the edges. The lithographed boards are slightly bumped and scuffed at the corners, edges and the spine as well as minor soiled. The frame bears occasional signs of use. The image measures 70.5 x 57.8 cm, the sheet 80 x 63 cm. The book measures 36 x 27 x 2.7 cm.

Marc Chagall (1887-1985)
The Russian-French painter Marc Chagall is renowned for his biblical motifs. He used the same, recurring symbols in his painted and printed works, as well as in his mosaics and in the windows and stage-sets designed by him. As one of the most important artists of the 20th Century the ‘painter-poet’ gave Expressionism a new character. After his first education at private art schools in Saint Petersburg he went to Paris in 1910 where he was involved in the avant-garde art scene. Apart from that, he was also inspired by visits to the salons, exhibitions and museums of this exciting city. After the First World War which Chagall spent in Russia he went to Berlin and later returned to Paris. Even after he had immigrated to America in 1941 he returned to his ‘ville lumière’ Paris in 1948. In his lifetime Marc Chagall received many commissions whose preparation and execution took him around the world. Already during his lifetime he was honored with numerous international exhibitions, retrospectives and art prizes.
